Anglesey teenager forced to have 92% of pancreas removed after being prescribed controversial acne drug

Daily Post article

A teenager nearly died six times after being prescribed increasing doses of a controversial acne drug.

Elin Rowlands has lost 92% of her pancreas after claiming she was given doses of up to 70mg of Roaccutane to clear her skin, with her medical discharge notes linking the drug to the damage.

The 15-year-old from Bodffordd near Llangefni became the youngest person to undergo surgery for necrotising pancreatitis at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

The drug was prescribed at Ysbyty Gwynedd after Elin began feeling depressed when bullies started teasing her about her spots.
